Title You Can Do It

I think the theme is perseverance because. He needs to find job but he is to sad. His family members tried to encourage him to Be able to find it. Next his dad took him to his Science lab to see if he would like it. He did but he said it is not my dream job. And then he went to the Dentist to fill his cavities and ask how did you do that? The doctor explains how he did that. He loved that job tell that season.

Coming on Home Soon
Jacqueline Woodson

I think the theme is to never lose hope. Her grandma keeps encouraging her to not be sad that her mom is gone. Her mom sent her a letter with money to show her moms is alive. The little girl and her grandma and her keep writing letters to her mom to give her hope and cheer up her mom. This is Dylan's opinion. It is a very good book with many emotions. Andrew's opinion it was a sad time for her.

I think the theme is never give up until it's over because he beat people in racing contests. He set a world record at the long jump contest and ended up in the top ten(Big ten champions). Even if it was a racing contest he trained and trained no matter what and won 4 gold medals. And improved many times. He never gave up racing and never stopped till he died in 1980 in Tucson Arizona on March 31st. He managed to beat the world record by jumping 26 FEET!

Jacobs New Dress

We think that the theme is perseverance because no matter what people say Jacob
keeps being him self and pushing through it. Also Christopher keeps being mean but Jacob just ignores him and keeps wearing dresses. Also because when times get ruff Jacob does not worry about it and keeps pushing him self. We think that the message is that Jacob does not care what people think about his clothing.

Wilma Unlimited
Kathleen Krull

We think the theme of the book is keep going for it/never give up. We think this because even though Wilma got twice as sick as her brothers and sisters, she would still do things she believed she could do. One day when Wilma was sick and twisted her leg, all the way around she had to wear a leg brace.

Later on in the year, at church Wilma took off her leg brace so she could walk again and she did achieve walking once in for all. After she achieved walking again she started playing basketball, and lead her team to multiple victories. At one of her basketball tournaments a coach from the Olympic running team asked Wilma to be an Olympic runner, and Wilma agreed.

Before one of Wilma's Olympic races she twisted her ankle, but she ran and forgot that she even hurt her ankle, and still crossed the finish line first, and won the Olympic gold medal. At Wilma's third race she got the baton and stumbled and fell but got back up and raced to the finish line, just in time. Then Wilma got to the finish line first, and won her third Olympic gold medal.

Queen of the Track
Heather Lang

We think the theme is perseverance because she is so strong in many different ways. Alice never gave up even though she knew her papa would punish her for running and jumping and playing sports with the boys because it was not ladylike. And people called her a "crazy fool" for doing that. Also when she did not have a coach she still coached her self and believed in her self even though World War 2 was going on and it was a hard time for everyone.

Alice never gave up,and she just kept on running. She ran and ran so much just to get in to the Olympics, to run and jump and be the BEST. Alice finally got excepted into the Olympics. But all the hard training weakened her back and it hurt to run and jump. But she went to the Olympics and do her personal best and she won America the gold medal. That is why we think the theme is PERSEVERANCE. The message makes us think that we should NEVER GIVE UP AND KEEP ON GOING WHEN THINGS ARE TOUGH.

The Story of Ruby Bridges
Robert Coles

I think the story of Ruby Bridges theme is perseverance because Ruby had a lot of perseverance to be going to a white only school. This story is about a little girl named Ruby she changed the world at the age of seven by making schools not only white schools but black schools to. She did this by getting chosen to go to a white only school everyday she would walk to school with a few security guards but they did not protect her vary well. She went school everyday without one complaint and before she got to the school yard she would pray for all the men and women screaming at her. Since she would not stop going to school people pulled there kids out of school because of her. But soon around the end of the school year two boys were sent to school because there parents were tired of them getting into mischief soon before school was out for the summer more kids joined Ruby at school and the vary next school year it was a white and black school. Soon around the country schools let black go to white schools.

Shoeless Joe and Black Betsy

Phil Bildner

I think the theme is never give up because when shoeless Joe was in the minors he had a bad season but he never gave up. He asked his friend ol'Charlie to make him the best baseball bat ever because at that time he couldn't hit a baseball well. Then he didn't do good with the bat so he asked his friend to fix the bat and after he fixed it he did good and went to the mlb (major league baseball) but he did bad at the mlb so he went to the minors and that happened 3 times.

Then he went to the mlb from the minors and Cleveland let him on there team and he did good his first season in the first 20 games he had 29 then he stayed with them the next season and in 147 games he had 233 hits!

Title: Sonia Sotomayor

Jonah Winter

I think that the theme of the story is to never give up, because Sonia kept studying and never gave up! When she was a kid she thought of being a judge so she never gave up on her dreams! When she was the best student in the school she went to on of the best schools and none of the people were like her and although she was shy she never gave up.
The book makes me think that anybody can be anything no matter what!
